Today was a difficult day. Tomorrow will be better.

The quote above has been rattling around in my head for the past few weeks, bubbling to the surface every so often as a little shoulder-tap reminder to not let my frustrations get the best of me. It’s short and to the point, yet full of meaning, as so many great quotes are. I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember where I first heard it and just couldn’t quite come up with it. So, I did what we all do in these cases – I googled it.

mr-slingerIt would seem that these brilliant words of wisdom came from the mind of master teacher/philosopher Mr. Slinger in the book Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, one of my daughter’s favorite read-aloud books. The funky, sandal-wearing Mr. Slinger is capable of diffusing even the most awkward situations (such as, handing in a homework assignment with a mean caricature of the teacher drawn on it) with a few well-chosen words. We should all be so eloquent.

Today was a difficult day. Tomorrow will be better. And if it’s not, the next day will be. Or the next day. Or the next…

  1. I had one of those days yesterday. Nice to know that I’m not alone and that I can look forward to new days coming!

  2. To tomorrow!
